The squat is a physical exercise that is performed from an upright position by flexing the knee, hip and ankle joints, keeping the body vertical, and then returning to the initial position. This exercise directly tones the lower body but also strengthens the muscles, tendons and ligaments of the entire body. In recent years, the biomechanics of the technical gesture of the squat has become a topic of great interest to researchers and trainers, which is why the objective of this study was to analyze the scientific literature on the biomechanics of the technical gesture of the squat in people who attend the gym. This research was carried out through a systematic review, following the guidelines of the PRISMA method, through searches in different databases, to select the relevant articles. The results found that the biomechanics of the squat can vary according to the characteristics of each subject, joint range, training experience, target muscle and the type of squat. In conclusion, the analysis of the scientific literature showed that the correct execution of the squat depends on the context of each individual.
